The 'duck curve' is solar energy's greatest challenge
Renewables require change in the energy supply chain.

Electricity is incredibly difficult to store, so grid operators have to generate it at the exact moment it is demanded. In order to do this, they create incredibly accurate models of the total electric loads, that is how much energy will be consumed on a given day. But as utilities started to produce more energy from renewable sources like solar, the models started to shift as well.
California researchers discovered a peculiarity in their state’s electric load curves, that started to look more and more like a duck. And that duck shaped chart highlights the greatest challenge to solar energy growth in the US.

Every year, the world uses 35 billion barrels of oil. This massive scale of fossil fuel dependence pollutes the earth, and it won’t last forever. On the other hand, we have abundant sun, water and wind, which are all renewable energy sources. So why don’t we exchange our fossil fuel dependence for an existence based only on renewables? Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei describe the challenges.
Lesson by Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei, directed by Giulia Martinelli.

The Failure of America's $1 Billion Solar Farm
The Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project was proposed back in 2011, and intended on meeting Nevada's rising demand for electricity to power 75,000 homes throughout the state. While the project was funded by the US Department of Energy and completed in 2015, it faced a number of challenges in the years afterward. This was mainly because of the new form of Solar Technology it was using, which was the first of its kind in the United States.
This new technology would ultimately lead the the failure of this $1 Billion dollar facility, which went bankrupt in 2020. But even as the future of this project looked uncertain, The US Buereu of Reclamation stated that the project had resumed full operation in July of 2021, due to increased demand for electricity throughout the state. Today, the future ...

I’ve been living with solar panels for almost 5 years in Massachusetts. Get my achieve energy security with solar guide: https://link.undecidedmf.com/solar-guide. There’s been some twists and turns with solar production and how it’s performed in the cold and snow. I also added a Tesla Powerwall into the mix. There are definitely some things I wish I knew before getting solar and a battery installed. How has it performed and do I still think getting solar panels was a good idea?

How solar energy got so cheap, and why it's not everywhere (yet)
A lot speaks for solar energy. It's clean, renewable – and now even cheaper than energy from fossil fuels like coal or natural gas. Sounds pretty great, right? But it only makes up a tiny bit of global electricity production. Why don't we use a lot more of it yet?
We're destroying our environment at an alarming rate. But it doesn't need to be this way. Our new channel Planet A explores the shift towards an eco-friendly world — and challenges our ideas about what dealing with climate change means. We look at the big and the small: What we can do and how the system needs to change. Every Friday we'll take a truly global look at how to get us out of this mess.

Since 2009, the price of solar energy has come down by 90 percent. That’s no accident. It’s the result of policy interventions from the US to Germany to China.
As policy analyst Gregory Nemet puts it, “No one country is responsible. It was a relay race rather than a competition.” The global flow of knowledge, people, technology, and policy helped bring down the price per watt from more than $100 in 1976 to less than $0.50 today, according to this analysis from the folks at Our World in Data. https://ourworldindata.org/cheap-renewables-growth
If we can learn the right lessons from solar’s success, it could help us develop and deploy the technology we need to keep our planet habitable and avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Today, the future of this project is still uncertain, but has resumed operation for the state of Nevada.

The solar energy revolution is happening right before our eyes. The successful transmission of solar energy from space to earth is demonstrating new possibilities for the use of solar power. The world's first train powered by solar panels has been created. In this video, we will discuss this and many other exciting advancements in solar energy, including a new contactless method for cleaning solar panels that could increase the efficiency of solar energy use in homes and buildings.
